Lynx: Augustus says Game 3 is about desire

Posted: Updated:

As the Lynx prepare to tackle Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals on the road in Phoenix, Seimone Augustus says her team has had to rally before, and now that the season is still on the line, this next match-up is all about desire.

Augustus helped the Lynx defeat the Mercury 82-77 on Sunday afternoon after she hit a clutch jumper late in the fourth quarter to bring her team up 78-75. The Lynx held the lead after trailing by as many as 13 points earlier in the game.

“Coach always says great players make great plays, but I think that has a lot to do with my teammates,” she said.

Augustus was fed the ball by Lindsay Whalen and came off a screen by Rebekkah Brunson, grabbing the foul from DeWanna Bonner and the crowd went wild. Augustus was planning to take that shot the whole time, and she says it was executed perfectly.

The Lynx ultimately outscored the Mercury 26-15 in the fourth quarter.

"Everything's out on the table. We know what they do, they know what we do, at this point, it's just who wants it more; the will to win, the desire to win is there. Granted, everybody feels like everything's against us because we're in Phoenix, but we've been in this position before where we've had to close out games on the road, so I feel like we're OK," Augustus said.

Minnesota and Phoenix will meet again on Tuesday night in a decisive match-up that will determine who heads to the WNBA Finals.
