Study: Coffee helps you nap better

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Drink a cup of coffee and you'll sleep better?

It sounds confusing but there's actual science behind this. Researchers now say that having a cup of coffee and then sleeping for 20 minutes is an effective way to nap and feel refreshed.

Lisa Cohn of Park Avenue nutrition says that according to the research, having coffee then napping is better than coffee or napping alone. The reason is based on a brain chemical called adenosine. She says adenosine builds up and tells your body says go to sleep. So if you go to sleep right after your coffee, the caffeine will kick in in about 20 minutes and you will wake up and be alert.

Some coffee drinkers say the coffee nap sounds good in theory but not practice.

Maybe we're all just better off getting those eight straight hours of sleep. According to scientists, the key is to try and go to sleep right away after drinking the coffee before the caffeine hits your bloodstream.

One of the most surprising findings in a report from the New York City public advocate is that city officials have virtually no authority over how nail salons are run. The city can't enforce standards like they do with restaurants, so it's clearly a case of beauty buyer beware. We get our nails done without thinking too much about it.
