NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - For actress Yeardley Smith, 'Lisa Simpson'-- the brainiac sister of Bart Simpson on 'The Simpsons'-- is like a best friend.  Smith has been the voice of the animated character since the 1980s and she is getting plenty of air time on FXX lately.

The channel is running every episode of The Simpsons, 24 hours a day.

“My Twitter account is blowing up. We have writers who as their episodes are airing they're talking about what they were thinking about when they wrote and saying lovely things about all the actors… that stuff to me is always very cool,” said Smith who called into Good Day New York from Los Angeles on Thursday.

Smith landed the role in a "very serendipitous" way.  

"I never wanted to do voice overs," said Smith.  

The struggling actress at the time was doing a small play in Hollywood that "17 peope" watched. But one of the audience members was a casting assistant for The Tracy Ullman show which she later joined. That job lead to 'The Simpsons.'

The marathon of 'The Simpsons' on FXX is about halfway through. 

"I always feel like when this show is over it will be like one of my very best friends in the world has moved away and is never coming back,” said Smith.
