Echo Park, CA -

(FOX 11 / CNS) A water main rupture flooded a street and businesses and left L.A. Department of Water and Power customers in Echo Park without service this morning, while another main break affected Brentwood customers, a DWP spokeswoman said.

The 8-inch main break at Sunset Boulevard and Alvarado Street was reported at 3:05 a.m., said LADWP's Gale Harris.

"It affected 15 services," including multi-family residences and businesses," Harris said. A service can include more than one customer, she noted.

"Flooding in the street probably damaged three to four businesses," she said. Broadcast video shows flooded aisles at a 99-Cent+ store.

The flooding was also raising the street and sidewalks, Harris said.

LADWP repair crews were on the scene beginning repairs and hoped to have service restored by 2 p.m. Southbound lanes 2 and 3 of Alvarado Street were closed, she said.

A 12-inch water main ruptured at Mandeville Canyon Road and Westridge Road in Brentwood, Harris said. Flooding was reported at 1 a.m. The break affected 10 to 15 customers and a repair crew was getting to the area at 6 a.m.

No damage was reported, Harris said.
