Police Focus On Identifying Shooter In Double Murder In Mayfair

Posted: Updated:

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA-A double murder in Philadelphia's Mayfair neighborhood has a community in mourning.

Police say one of the women killed inside a home on the 4700 block of Vista Street was like a grandmother to fellow neighbors.

FOX 29's Dave Kinchen has been following the story.

"She was one of the sweetest persons that you could ever meet,” said one neighbor.

She says Dollie Evans always looked out for her and gave her clothes from time to time.

She wants to know how someone could kill her, and another woman. Both of the bodies were found in the Mayfair home, which belonged to Evans, on Saturday.

"Anybody know anything about Dollie and what's going on, please come forward, please,” said one neighbor.

67-year-old Evans was known as "grandma" to neighbors.

Her brother had just seen her a half hour before hearing the news and says she had been getting death threats, but isn't sure why.

"She was lovin' you know what I mean? She always liked to cook. People knew her because they would come around and eat, you know the homeless, or whatever, she helped them, took them in,” said Lloyd Knox.

Evans looked after Ruby Thomas, who was also found dead in the home, both victims shot in the head, according to police.

Her devastated brother still looking for answers a day later.

Relatives say grandma's Pit Bull named Kilo was home at the time of the shooting, but was in the basement.

"The dog would have prevented all of this. He really would have,” said one neighbor.

Police say someone was seen running from the house right before the bodies were discovered. According to authorities, there were no signs of forced entry.
