A 26-year-old pleaded guilty in court on Tuesday to one count of theft by taking for stealing more than $80, 000 in court fines.

Airiel Vrejean Wright, a former City of Atlanta Municipal Court clerk, collected funds between July 2010 and July 2012, according to investigators.

As part of her duties, Wright was responsible for receiving payments for court citations via cash, check and credit cards, according to court documents.

The incident came to light in July 2012 after a customer complained about receiving incorrect change for a previous payment.

Wright was terminated and arrested following an internal investigation.

After her guilty plea, Fulton County Magistrate Judge Karen Woodson sentenced Wright to a one year prison term followed by ten years' probation and full restitution as recommended by the State.
