Fugitive Ty Hoffman charged with murder of Lush cofounder

Posted: Updated:

Ty Hoffman remains at-large, but he was charged Friday with second-degree murder in the Aug. 11 shooting death of Lush Food Bar co-founder Kelly Phillips at an Arden Hills, Minn. gas station. A nationwide warrant has been issued for the arrest of Lyle “Ty” Hoffman and the state will ask for $1 million bail if and when he is in custody.

The Ramsey County attorney's office is not releasing a copy of the criminal complaint against Hoffman at this time “to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.”

Police believe Hoffman shot and killed Phillips at the Holiday gas station near Highway 96 and Round Lake Road after a verbal argument. The two arrived in the same dark-colored BMW, and witnesses said Phillips tried to flee before he was shot in the back and the head. Crimestoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to arrest of Ty Hoffman. Anyone with information is urged to call 911 or 651-266-7320.

Phillips, 48, and Hoffman, 44, were former “life partners” and also co-founded Lush Food Bar in northeast Minneapolis back in 2009.
