NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Oscar and Golden Globe winner Mira Sorvino is playing a character like she's never played before in the new TV series, Intruders.

“It was just a fantastic project. The character has a huge range from very vulnerable to much stronger and Machiavellian and above the law in her own head,” said Sorvino.

The star of hit movies like Mighty Aphrodite, Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion and Human Trafficking takes a turn on the small screen for the BBC America series which premieres on Aug. 23.

“There is no longer that divide between film acting and television acting. It's where ever the material is good that's where we're going. Now everybody is doing television if it's a good project. I love that. There is so many interesting things you can do in the longer form that you can't explore in an hour and a half in a feature,” said Sorvino.

Intruders, an eight-part series, is based on Michael Marshal Smith's novel, The Intruders. The show is about a secret society devoted to chasing immortality by seeking refuge in the bodies of others.
