Former Georgia governor endorses Nunn's Senate bid

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA (AP) - Former Georgia Gov. Zell Miller has endorsed Democratic Senate nominee Michelle Nunn over Republican David Perdue.

Miller's Thursday announcement gives Nunn another popular retired politician to cite in addition to her father, former Sen. Sam Nunn, as she pitches herself as a moderate problem-solver in this GOP-leaning state.

Best known as the father of Georgia's Lottery and HOPE scholarship program, Miller was elected to two terms as governor as a Democrat and later won a special election to the Senate.

Miller famously sided with Republican President George W. Bush in the 2004 presidential election, delivering a scathing keynote address at that year's Republican National Convention in New York.

Nunn is facing off against Republican David Perdue in a November election that could decide the Senate's balance of power.
