CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
It just got a little more difficult to get around Downtown Thursday morning.
The State Street Bridge over the Chicago River officially closed for ten days Wednesday in order to continue the construction of a walkway underneath it, which is part of the ongoing Chicago Riverwalk project.
Crews are working on a continuous pedestrian path along the main branch of the Chicago River from State Street to Lake Street. This phase of construction requires lifting and closing the bridges for a period of several days each.
Commuters can use LaSalle, Clark, Dearborn, Wabash or Michigan as your alternates. Plus, CTA is having to re-route the #29, #36 and #62 buses around the closure.
Give yourself a little extra time to accommodate for the detour.
The bridge is scheduled to reopen on Saturday, August 23.
