WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) - When people first heard an elderly woman lost her life in the aftermath of a massive storm in Warren, their shock turned into complete silence.

Julia Sarno was 100 years old.

"At 100, she's in great health, from what you can expect," said neighbor Stewart Sarver. "So why would anything like this happen to her. "

Sarno lived in this condo on Villa Pointe, near Martin and Schoenherr and her neighbors loved knowing she was there.

"She was just a tiny little thing," Sarver said.

"She drove her car from the condo to the mailbox and back again," Sarver said. "So she never went anywhere. She doesn't do anything other that wave at you, but it was neat that she's there and now she's not going to be,"

Sarno's daughter came all the time to pick her up go to dinner.

But on Tuesday, Warren Police  tell us Sarno's daughter had not heard from her mother.

She and her husband were worried, so they came by to check on her. That's when they found their beloved, in the flooded basement, in about two and a half feet of water - dead.

Police say from her position, its appears she drowned.

"I heard it was very slippery down there because of the sewage and stuff like that," said another neighbor.  "I believe she just feel down from that."

"It's really terrible," said neighbor Matt Prizgint. "I know that the city of Warren is doing an upgrade on their sewer system but should try a little bit harder, try to get that sewer system done. So if another storm happens like this, we won't be going through this (and) someone else wouldn't have died for this."

Fox 2 has learned that another Warren woman has died. We're told she was stranded near Buddy's Pizza at Van Dyke and old 13 mile Monday.

An employee confirmed with us off camera, that a 33-year-old woman came inside, had a seizure, and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Warren Police said that she later died.

The clean up from this cruel weather catastrophe...will  be quite extensive, the repairs will run deep.

Many cars still have not been moved. Much of Metro Detroit doing it's best to dry out, but the loss of life is something that can never be measured.

More information about Sarno's death will be revealed once the autopsy is complete, according to police.
