Reward Offered In Drive-By Shooting At NJ Police Station

WEST DEPTFORD, N.J. -

A reward of more than $25,000 is now being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for a drive-by shooting at a New Jersey police station early Tuesday morning.

The shooting occurred at approximately 4:05 a.m. at the West Deptford Police Department building located at 400 Crown Point Road.

Police say surveillance cameras mounted on the building indicate that the suspect vehicle was a smaller, dark-colored sedan that drove eastbound through the lot firing seven rounds at the building before fleeing the scene.

“At this point we cannot tell whether there's one person or several occupants in the vehicle,” said West Deptford Police Chief Sean McKenna.

Four officers were working at the time, but only the supervisor was in the station when the shots were fired. None of the police were injured, an investigation has been initiated, and the department is on alert.

The surveillance video released by police shows a car in the upper left corner, mostly out of the light, rolling slowly through the lot and then driving away. Other cars do appear to be in the area. A New Jersey State Police trooper pulls into the lot before the video ends.

“They're definitely targeting one of our officers, we have great concern.  Our guys are on high alert and have been told to be very vigilant,” said Chief Sean McKenna.

Five bullets hit the door but did not penetrate a thick security door. One bullet went into Chief McKenna's office through a window. And the seventh bullet hit a rain spout. The deputy police chief does not believe he was specifically targeted.

“We haven't at this point received any specific threats,” said West Deptford Police Lt. Stephen Meduri. “It's clear that we were targets.”

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Sgt. Michael Cramer at 856-853-4599 ext. 164.

Contributing to the $25,750 reward that's being offered were: the New Jersey State PBA, $20,000; Gloucester County PBA Local 122, $5,000; Glassboro FOP Lodge, $500; and the Washington Township PBA Local, $250.

"We appreciate the support we have been receiving from the these organizations and the public," police said in a news release. "At this time, there is no additional information on the suspect or vehicle. The investigation is ongoing."
