DEA BUYS AMTRAK PASSENGER LISTS - Would you pay nearly a $1 million for something you could get for free? A new report out says the Drug Enforcement Administration did by paying paid an Amtrak secretary $854,460 to be an informant to obtain passenger lists. Amtrak's Inspector General reports that the railroad already is partners with DEA in a drug enforcement task force. If they had asked, says the IG's report, that task force can obtain Amtrak confidential passenger reservation information at no cost if they had just asked for it.

SUICIDE PREVENTION EFFORTS - The death of Robin Williams by an apparent suicide is casting a rare light on a public health crisis that is often not talked about. CDC reports more than 100 Americans die from suicide each day, and the numbers are going in the wrong direction. Suicides has grown by more than 11 percent since 2006, even as the overall death rate from all causes has fallen by 16 percent. More Americans now likely to die from suicide than from a car accidents, and 30 percent of the deaths are among middle-aged Americans.

CANTOR SEAT BALLOT CONFUSION - When former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor quit his Virginia Congressional seat, he set in motion an election that Virginia officials are concerned could wind up confusing many voters. The November 4th ballot will have two different races for Virginia's 7th Congressional District. First is the special election to serve out the last two months of Cantor's term. The second is for the new two-year term starting in January. Democrat Jack Trammell and Republican David Brat will be on both ballots. But election officials are concerned voters will cast ballots in one election, and not the other.

FAKE BIN LADEN BORDER CROSSING - Activist filmmaker James O'Keefe's Project Veritas has set its sights on election fraud, voter ID, and National Public Radio. Now the groups latest effort is aimed at taking on U.S. officials who claim the border with Mexico is secure. In his latest video, O'Keefe dressed as the late Osama Bin Laden, complete with a rubber Bin Laden mask. He apparently was able to cross the U.S. border with Mexico unchallenged while dressed as one of the most notorious terrorists in history. The video is on Project Veritas' website.
