CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A man was charged in connection with an attempted sexual assault on the Southwest Side Friday morning.

Lemar Hardy, 25, of the 2700 block of West 37th Place, was charged with one count of attempted criminal sexual assault, police announced early Saturday.

According to police, Hardy tried to sexually assault a 22-year-old woman about 8:30 a.m. Friday in the 3600 block of South Washtenaw.

Prosecutors said he tackled her to the ground and threatened to kill her if she didn't show him her vagina. He then pulled down his shorts and attempted to pull down her dress.

Two witnesses saw the incident and approached, preventing the sexual assault, prosecutors said. Arriving police officers saw Hardy enter a building, where they found him hiding in a closet, according to the arrest report.

He was identified in a lineup by the woman and both witnesses, prosecutors said.

Hardy was ordered held without bond Saturday. He is next scheduled to appear in court Monday.
