Six Michigan schools open doors early on Monday

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) -
Summer break is a little bit shorter for some kids across Michigan this year - they're going back to school on Monday.

Six Michigan schools will be moving to a balanced calendar school year, which means kids are in class year around.

The state of Michigan offered grants to the schools to make the transition.

Administrators hope this will minimize the learning loss that occurs during the summer months for some students.

They'll  have the same amount of class time as before, but breaks will be shorter and more often throughout the school year.
