PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Phoenix police are warning residents to be on the lookout for thieves breaking into cars and garages in northeast Phoenix.

Someone called police about a suspicious vehicle driving around the area of 54th St & Michelle Drive.

Officers tried to stop the driver but he did not stop. They found the vehicle abandoned nearby and despite a search the thief got away.

Inside they found items from 3 residential burglary cases and six garage door openers.

Authorities believe the thief breaks into vehicles that have visible garage door openers. He then opens the garage and steals any items inside.
