GLENVIEW, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

The driver of a pickup was hospitalized after crashing the truck into a house early Thursday morning in north suburban Glenview.

The Ford pickup struck a brick home about 7:15 a.m. in the 3200 block of Potter Road, just north of the intersection of Hammersmith Drive, according to Glenview police Sgt. Patrick Schuster.

The truck was apparently southbound on Potter when it veered to the right and off the road, striking a mailbox and crashing into the house, according to Schuster.

Homeowner Martin Abrams was in his kitchen when the truck rammed through a brick wall into his study den just feet away, he told Pioneer Press.

“I thought it was a landscaper who had lost control of his mower,” Abrams said.

“Tons of smoke was pouring in because the driver’s foot was still on the gas pedal, so his tires were still spinning,” he added, pointing to black skid marks on his front steps sidewalk.

Abrams said the truck was halfway in the room.

“The emergency responders were great. Lots of them here very quickly,” he said.

The front of Abrams’ home sustained extensive damage, but he was not injured. The driver lived in the neighborhood, and a jogger pulled him unconscious from the still-running truck, Abrams said.

The driver — a male whose age was not immediately known — was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with non-life-threatening injuries, Schuster said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Schuster said. No charges had been filed as of early Thursday afternoon.
