Disabled woman's motorized scooter stolen

Posted: Updated:
A disabled woman's only way of getting around was stolen recently - when she was at church.

"I felt like I was doing the right thing, going to church," said Kathy Ladd.

Ladd, 62, of Mt. Clemens, was doing what's right, she said, going to church on Sunday afternoon with her sister. But while she was there -- someone else was stealing her motorized scooter.

"Lord help me," Ladd said. "He does with everything else."

Suffering from copd -- and pulmonary hypertension, it's Ladd's only way to get around. Her $4,000 motorized red and gray scooter that holds her oxygen tanks was stolen from the lobby of her Park Place towers apartment complex.

"It's sad that there are people in this world who would do stuff like that," Ladd said. "Especially in a senior home. It would be like taking it from your own grandma."

The man, who no one recognizes, is seen on surveillance cameras Sunday punching random numbers to try and get in.

He got in somehow -- eventually -- and can be seen walking throughout the complex. According to Macomb County sheriffs, he left riding Ladd's scooter.

Now,  barely able to walk, she is stuck inside her 9th floor apartment.

Ladd hopes her prayers will compel someone to do what's right and return her scooter.

"Please bring it back," Ladd pleaded. "You don't need it. I need it."

Anyone with information about the man, or the scooter is asked to call the Macomb County Sheriff's Office at (586) 469-5151.
