Red Cross Asking For Blood Donors, Supplies Are Critically Low

Posted: Updated:
Los Angeles, CA -

(FOX 11) Summer is not known as the season of giving which is a problem for the American Red Cross. Right now there's a shortage of blood donors and the group is urging people to give if they can.

Blood donations are down 8% in the last eleven weeks which means the agency could experience an emergency situation if more people don't roll up a sleeve and donate.

According to the Red Cross, eligible donors with types O negative, B negative and A negative blood are especially sought after right now. Type O negative is the universal giver blood type and types A negative and B negative can be transfused to Rh positive or negative patients.

Red Cross says platelets are also in need and are urging donors to step forward all in the name of possibly saving lives down the road.

For more information on how to donate and where to find blood drive near you contact 1-800-Red-Cross.
