Trial set for mother of missing Jhessye Shockley

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Almost three years after the disappearance of little Jhessye Shockley of Glendale, a trial date has been set for her mother.

Jeryce Hunter is charged with her daughters murder, but little Jhessye's body was never found.

A national group still lists Jhessye as a missing child, even posting an age progression photo of what she would look like now.

Hunter's trial date is set for January 12th, 2015. She's facing murder and child abuse charges in connection with the disappearance of her daughter.

Even though, she is facing charges the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children still lists Jhessye Shockley as missing.

In fact, the photo on their website shows what Shockley would look like at seven-years-old.

Glendale Police said it would be improper to comment saying they don't want to do anything to jeopardize the prosecution of Hunter.

FOX 10 reached out to the center for comment on the photo, but they have not replied.

5-year-old Jhessye Shockley vanished in the fall of 2011. The following year police searched the Butterfield Landfill south of the valley for 96 days but never found Shockley's remains.

Investigators say Hunter killed her daughter in their Glendale apartment and then disposed of her body in Tempe.

Hunter allegedly told investigators that she left Jhessye with the girl's older siblings while she ran an errand and returned to find her gone. Hunter pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and child abuse charges.
