Minivan Jumps Curb, Slams Into Porch In Kingsessing

Posted: Updated:

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA-Residents in Philadelphia’s Kingsessing neighborhood got the scare of their lives around 10 a.m. on Sunday after a minivan jumped a curb and slammed into a front porch.

The crash was so forceful that L& I agents had to check to see if the property was still stable.

Only Fox 29 was at the scene to capture the incredible video.

“Very far. If my kids play here, maybe trouble, you know,” said resident Ho Cuong.

A splintered pole landed right into the yard Cuong's children are usually playing in.

Cinder blocks, battered pieces of fencing and car parts still lay strewn about.

Police say a woman was driving a minivan and lost control after colliding with another car.

She was the only one who was injured in the crash.

“I didn't even realize it until I got to the top of the stairs. And there it was. I’m like who cut down the bush? Then I saw the tracks,” said resident Carolyn Connelly.

Michael Lee heard the driver crying for help after the accident

“We say stay in the car. Wait till the police come and rescue,” he said.

L & I inspectors took a look at the damage to the rowhome, which neighbors say is vacant.

The van's cracked mirror took much of the impact and may have saved the house from structural damage.

Hours after the incident tow truck drivers dragged the damaged minivan from the scene

“Sometimes the kids play around here, but today was a pleasant day. The only thing I can say. We thank God," said resident Damon Johnson.

Neighbors say just an hour or two later and the street and yards would have been filled with little kids.

The driver is expected to be OK. Police are still investigating the accident.
