HUTCHINSON, Minn. (KMSP) -

A hunting dog retrieved what appeared to be a human hand Wednesday afternoon near Hutchinson, Minn., but the McLeod County sheriff's office and Midwest Medical Examiner's Office have determined the remains are not human.

McLeod County Sheriff Scott Rehmann told the Hutchinson Leader that the “suspicious item” was picked up by a dog being trained at Gopher Campfire Conservation Club. The dog's owner called the sheriff's office shortly after noon Wednesday.

The partially decomposed remains were sent to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office in Anoka, Minn.
