Police are investigating the cause of two deaths after a couple was found unresponsive inside a Strawberry Mansion home.

FOX 29’s Steve Keeley spoke with members of the family this morning as they are trying to piece together what happened last night.

Police say neighbors alerted them after hearing a woman screaming outside on the corner at 1am Thursday.

It turned out to be a 39-year old woman, the couple’s only child. The retired couple lived in the residence on 2500 North Spangler Street for over 40 years. Neighbors tell FOX 29 they never bothered anyone on their street.

The daughter found her parents dead on the first floor stairway after she discovered  the front door of the home was left open.

She talked to her parents on Wednesday, according to other family members. When she went to check back after midnight, she didn’t hear back from them.

Police came in and found no sign of anyone breaking in the home or anyone harming them.

The initial thought was that the couple may have suffered from carbon monoxide suffocation, but  fire department official say there were no immediate reading at all for carbon monoxide levels.

Another consideration is that the couple somehow died simultaneously died of natural causes.

Gladys, 66, had retired as a nurse at Hahnemann Hospital for about a year now. She is the oldest sibling of 12 siblings. Her husband Rufus is 78.

Officers have not ruled out foul play. The medical examiner will most likely release more details on the cause of death this afternoon.
