Driver falls asleep, plunges into Otter Tail River

FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KMSP) -

A driver fell asleep and his truck veered off the road and into the Otter Tail River along I-94 on Monday.

The 83-year-old driver Victor Tschida and passenger Beatrice Tschida, 79, both of Melrose, Minn., each sustained non-life threatening injuries. Tschida was headed eastbound in a GMC Sierra on I-94 before falling asleep and driving into the river, prompting a rescue effort by the Fergus Falls Fire Department. Fergus Falls police, fire and Otter Tail County sheriff's office officials were all on-scene to assist.
