Wettest Start to the Year Ever in One Region of Minnesota

Posted: Updated:

I feel like a broken record… ok, I guess I am one, but this year, all we have talked about is rain, snow, and cold. The first 5 months of the year were well below average followed by June which was just normal. But the precipitation talk just won’t go away because we can’t seem to get rid of it for more than a few days at a time. I wrote in a previous blog that it has been almost a year since we have seen 7 straight days of dry weather… well that statistic coincides well with the fact that the first six months of this year have been the 2nd wettest in history… dating back to the late 1800’s. But, splitting the state into different regions, it is the very center portions of the state that include parts of the far west and southwest metro along with St. Cloud, Hutchinson, and Glencoe that have experienced the very wettest first 6 months of the year in history. Combine that with the cold, and it’s a recipe for a pretty miserable few months… unless you are like me who loves the snow, rain, and cold. So how cold? Obviously we were far cooler than average, but the year of the snowman didn’t even breach the top ten coldest starts statewide. You can see all of the stats yourself in the images below…
