Flash Flood Warnings In Effect - KMSP-TV

Flash Flood Warnings In Effect

Posted: Updated:

Damaging winds, hail and lightning are the concerns again as strong storms move across the Philadelphia area for the third straight afternoon.

Several areas are under Severe Thunderstorm Warnings. Some of those storms are packing 60-mph winds.

The entire FOX 29 viewing area is also under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 9 p.m.

Flash flooding is also a concern because these storms will have heavy rain and a possibility of water rising in flood-prone areas.

The National Weather Service says the primary threats include scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph, and hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter is possible in some places.

"A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area," the weather service explains. "Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.

Things should start improving Wednesday, which looks like an "8," with a high of 84 degrees. And we're calling Thursday, when we'll hit 83, a "10."

Friday looks less humid at 84, and we're forecasting a pair of 82s for the weekend, although we may be breaking our streak of perfect Saturdays with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms then some more on Sunday.

There's another chance of storms after some early sunshine Monday.
