LGBT College Student Expelled For Marrying Long-Time Girlfriend

Posted: Updated:

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK- A female college student in Oklahoma is expelled for marrying her girlfriend.

Student Christian Minard received a letter from Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, notifying her of her expulsion after she married her long-time partner.

The college bans homosexuality and even has a code of conduct against it.

Minard was just one semester shy of graduating.

Two-and-half a years ago Minard also signed a lifestyle covenant which clearly bans homosexuality.

The student handbook also says attendance at the university is a privilege not a right and that the privilege can be withdrawn.

"There's a lot of things outlined in there that aren't upheld every single day and I mean the number one thing on that list is discrimination," Minard said of the handbook.

The ACLU is working with Minard to see if anything can be done to rectify the situation.

"I would hope that institutions like this university and others would one reconsider their policies and two in the event that they are going to apply these code of conducts against their students do so in a way that is equal across the board and gives their student the opportunity to respond," said ACLU executive director Ryan Kiesel.

Minard will be meeting with the dean of the school next week.
