Little League field named after Carew

Posted: Updated:

Even after decades off the field, Rod Carew is still a Twins fan favorite and as one of the official ambassador’s during All Star Weekend, is showcasing Minnesota baseball to the world. But it is his efforts working with under served youth through rejuvenating baseball in the inner city also known as the RBI Program that is finally being recognized.

Carew had a Little League baseball field in northeast Minneapolis named in his honor.

“It doesn’t cost anything to be nice,” Carew said. “So no matter who you are, don’t forget who you are and don’t forget where you came from.”

Carew last played in the major leagues in 1985 and is another reason the Twins want to make sure the 18-time All Star and member of the 3000 hit club is appreciated by this generation.
