Laura's Likes: Grilling Edition

Posted: Updated:

For this weekend edition of Laura's Likes, I have come across some great products that are perfect for you if you like to be outside barbecuing.

Grill Grate

It doesn't matter if you have a gas grill or charcoal grill. It's all about the grate -- where the meat meets the heat and the actual cooking takes place.

Grill grates are interlocking panels that you put on top of any grill -- creating a new grill surface -- and it actually cooks food better, more evenly and cuts down on those nasty flare ups. That means juicier meats that are more evenly cooked and perfectly seared.

You can put anything on these: steak, chicken, pork, fish, vegetables. You can even grill pizza on this!

Consumer Reports' lab recently put Grill Grate to the test and found they did improve evenness in some of their testing.

You'll find these on Prices start at $39.99.

Be Koool Itch Relief Patches

If you are going to be outside, know that the mosquitoes will be biting. Here is a great solution for those bites: the Be Koool Itch Relief Patch.

All the active ingredients are built right into the patches. Lidocaine stops the itching quickly and menthol soothes the area.

There is no mess. These just stick onto the skin. And the adhesive stays in place for hours creating a physical barrier to keep kids and adults from scratching.

You can find these at Walmart, Harris Teeter and

They were just released last year and they are about $4 for a box of 18 patches. More information at

And finally, if you have any leftover food, I am a fan of Tupperware. But how frustrating is it when you can't find the top? Or you have a plate of food you want to protect from bugs.

Well, here is the perfect solution: the CoverMate. It's like a shower cap for your food.

And since I don't like waste and we have got to be good Earth stewards, you can easily rinse these off, let them dry out and use them again.

The company says you can put them in the top shelf of the dishwasher and are safe to use in the microwave.

The covers are designed with vents on the side. Those allow steam to escape if you use these in the microwave.

They come in all different shapes and sizes.

Check out to find out which retailers carry them. I found a variety pack of 10 at Target for $3.69.
