Victims Continue Coming Forward In Cancer Fundraiser Scam

Posted: Updated:

HARRISON COUNTY, IN - A woman in Indiana is behind bars, accused of faking a brain tumor in order to scam people out of money.

27-year-old Teryn Applegate is facing theft charges.

Police say she held fundraisers and made people think they were helping with her medical costs.

The scam was uncovered in June.

And since then police say more victims continue to come forward.

Prosecutors say some of the new complaints are from other neighboring counties, causing the investigation into the scam to widen tonight.

Applegate says she also had her family and three young children believing that she was dying.

Officials say she has no medical issues whatsoever.
