City Council Hopes To Change Pool Policy After Same-Sex Couple Denied Pool Access

Posted: Updated:

Galion, OH-A same-sex couple in Ohio is outraged after they say they were denied access to a swimming pool.

Melody Mohn and her three children have swam at Heise Park pool in Galion, Ohio, for years as part of a family tradition.

However, that all changed when she got married to her wife.

The city ordinance says a family consists of a man, a woman and up to three children, which means her new family was denied a "household" pass to swim.

Now, the city council is hoping to change the policy.

"We would come almost every day. That's our spot over there," said Mohn. "I just figured they would realize it was an old ordinance and give me permission right away. I mean, it's a pool pass."

"The proposed wording is that we change it to a family or a "household" pass and it would allow for two adults and three children," said Galion City Council Member Sarah Capretta.

A change is not likely to happen before the summer pool season is over in September.
