Lee Thomas goes behind the scenes of the new movie Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) - Fox 2's Lee Thomas got a chance to sit down with a few members of the cast and crew from  the new movie Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Directed by Matt Reeves and presented by 20th Century Fox, the movie is about a growing nation of genetically evolved apes, led by Caesar,  who are threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earths dominant species.

Lee sat down with Andy Serkis who played Caesar, actors Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, and Terry Notary who choreographed the Apes.

In his interview with Serkis, Lee was given a look at how the special effects that were used to generated the Apes. Serkis who plays Caesar, the leader of the apes, had to wear a camera that was positioned on his face to capture his facial movements.

When Lee sat down with actors Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, and Keri Russell said they would do multiple takes so they can "paint" the apes in.

Lee dropped in with Terry Notarty who is the choreographer and also an actor in the film. Notarty took Lee through the steps of how to walk like one of the Apes in the movie, they use arm extensions to lengthen their arms to be like apes.

It's not just the styles that have changed with weddings over the years -- it's also the technology. Disposable cameras used to be the norm, but now there's an even simpler way for the bride and groom to get some candid photos of their special day.
