CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Construction plans are being developed for a new Navy Pier hotel, according to a report by DNAinfo Chicago.
Plans were discussed at a community meeting in Streeterville Tuesday night. Among those at the meeting was Steve Haemmerle, executive vice president of Navy Pier Inc.
The idea is to build a 5-story boutique hotel, which would be located on top of an existing structure on the East end of the pier. The building would be next to Festival Hall and have up to 225 rooms, according to Haemmerle.
The hotel will also be used to lure tourists to the pier during the winter.
Developers are currently being sought for the project.
The idea still needs approval by the Chicago Planning Commission. That could be tricky, though, because the city has an ordinance that bans construction East of Lake Shore Drive.
