Gwinnett woman claims she was wrongly arrested

Posted: Updated:

A Gwinnett County woman says she was arrested and hauled off to jail and had no idea why.

Pamela Lawrence is a 58-year-old grandmother who just spent 5 days in jail. She says police arrested the wrong person.

Lawrence was taken to jail when she was pulled over in Snellville and her name popped up in the state's crime data system as someone wanted for larceny by Newton County.

According to the warrant, the wanted person is Pamela D Jones from Covington. While Pamela Lawrence's maiden name is Jones, she says she hasn't used that name in more than a decade. She also says she doesn't have a middle name, and she has never lived in Covington.

A spokesman from the Newton County Sheriff's office says personal information was entered into the data system incorrectly and they are investigating.

Lawrence says it's a mistake that has caused her a lot of problems. She says she feels like she's lost her credibility and her job is on the line because of the arrest. She says it will take a long time for her to get her life back to normal.
