If you live in Fulton County, you will likely pay more property taxes this year.
Just as the economy bounces back and property values are on the rise, Fulton County commissioners are considering an increase in the millage rate that would amount to about a 17 percent hike.
The hike would mean homeowners and some renters would pay more. If you own a $100 thousand home, you would shell out $15.70 more a year. If you own a $250 thousand home, $109.90 more a year and $266.90 a year on a $500 thousand home.
Some taxpayers want the county to use the additional revenue for much needed services. Some people who oppose the millage increase believe the real estate market will be hit exceptionally hard.
Commission Chairman John Eaves says the county will also consider a soft hiring freeze, coupled with more budget tightening which may lead to a lesser hike.
