7 things that define Minneapolis: Lake Harriet

Posted: Updated:

Minneapolis is home to the 2014 MLB All-Star Game, but frankly, there will be a lot of visitors who don't know why the city is so special. What would you want them to think of when they think, “Minneapolis?” We’re crowdsourcing a list of the top 7 artifacts, people and places that define Minneapolis every day leading up to the July 15 All-Star Game at Target Field and will post your stories and photos on myfox9.com and to the Fox 9 Facebook page starting Wednesday.

LAKE HARRIET

"I love Minneapolis! I was born in Minneapolis, and grew up there. I lived in the S.W. (Linden Hills) area from age 7 to 17. I love the Minneapolis lakes. My favorite is Lake Harriet. I went swimming there quite often as a child with my best friend Nancy. I get so nostalgic when I go there. I love the bandshell, concession building, and going on the trolley ride. I rode on streetcars when I was a little girl. It is such a wonderful area, and a wonderful time in my life. I live in Lakeville now, but go over there as often as possible. Recently, I took my grandson for a drive around the lake, my former house and church, and we went to The Wild Rumpus Book Store (which he loved)!"

A 25-year-old Annandale man has been missing since Aug. 22, and while police aren't releasing many details, family members worry that foul play may be involved, so on Saturday, they did what they've done for the last several days -- they went looking for him.
