Pay 'N Go Peach Pass to be sold at local drug stores

Posted: Updated:
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -

Using the Hot Lanes along I-85 have never been easier. The State Road and Toll Authority has issued more than 276,000 Peach Passes, and recently they launched the new Pay 'N Go Peach Pass. The starter kits are sold at area drug stores and can be a quick and easy way to start using the hot lanes.

In May, 558,076 trips were logged on I-85's Hot Lanes, that's an all-time high. If you're interested in trying them out, the Pay 'N Go Peach Pass may be perfect for you. You just buy a card, set a price limit and drive.

Now you can start beating the backups along I-85 with a Pay 'N Go Peach Pass, sold at many CVS and Walgreen's pharmacies. "We are super excited at the State Road and Toll Authority to offer the new Pay 'N Go Peach Pass," says Malika Wilkins, the Director of Marketing and Communications with the State Road and Tollway Authority.

It works just like a gift card. You just pick up a starter kit, pre-pay a set amount, anywhere between $20-$500, and you're ready to hit the road.

"Once your transaction is completed, you take your Pay 'N Go Peach Pass starter kit, open it up and there's a Peach Pass transponder inside, install it on your windshield and go," adds Wilkins.

And it's not only I-85, more and more Hot Lanes are on the way to Atlanta. Plans are already in place to bring them to I-75 on the Southside, and I-75 through Cobb County in the coming years.

"The card has been activated and it's ready to go," a Gwinnett County cashier tells a customer.

For SRTA, the changes are all about options and convenience. Instead of being forced to use debit or credit cards through the Peach Pass website, this way you can use cash.

"It's about choices, that’s what Peach Pass is all about, giving motorists more choices. You can use cash, you can use your debit or credit card and you can choose to use the I-85 peach pass anytime you need it. It's just that simple," Wilkins says.

The Pay 'N Go Peach Pass is sold at certain Walgreen's stores but they're available at all CVS stores throughout the state. There are fees associated with the Pay 'N Go Peach Pass. There's a $2.50 convenience fee on the starter kit, then it will cost you a $1.50 to refill the card.

If you like the Pay 'N Go, you can convert to a regular Peach Pass account for extra perks. You'll get a $5 toll credit, your funds never expire and you can manage your account online. At the beginning of 2015 you'll also be able to use your Peach Pass to move through the tolls in Florida and North Carolina, but again, only with a regular Peach Pass account.
