Hopkins man, 24, drowns in Balsam Lake

POLK COUNTY, Wis. (KMSP) -  A 24-year-old from Hopkins, Minn. tragically drowned in a Wisconsin lake over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office was notified of a missing swimming on Sunday at 10:25 a.m. at a residence on Kemah Park Lane on Balsam Lake. Initial reports indicated that a man and a woman were swimming out onto a raft but when the woman returned to the raft, Deangelo Williams was no longer behind her.

A water search was initiated by Polk County deputies, Balsam Lake Fire, WI DNR Warden, Balsam Lake Water Patrol, SCF Fire Divers, and St. Croix EMS, but at 11:43 a.m., Williams' body was found in 10 feet of water about 30 yards from the dock. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Polk County Medical Examiner.
