Perkins, Suzuki to represent Minnesota in 2014 All-Star Game

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

Glen Perkins and Kurt Suzuki will represent the Minnesota Twins in the 2014 MLB All-Star Game -- the pair was named to the American League All-Star roster on Sunday night.

Though Joe Mauer didn’t make the roster with a tough competition at first base, Suzuki is a reserve at catcher in his first All-Star selection in his first season with the Twins. As of Sunday, Suzuki batted .306 with 34 RBI in 72 games.

In his second All-Star selection, Perkins is truly at home at Target Field as a Twin and a Stillwater, Minn. native. With 20 saves, he's fourth among American League closers. His first All-Star selection came during his first full year with the Twins.

Watch the game on July 15, 2014 at 7 p.m. CT on FOX.

Former Twin and Park Center grad Pat Neshek is also heading to the All-Star Game and has been lights out for the St. Louis Cardinals this season with 35 strikeouts and an ERA of just 0.77. Neshek pitched for the Twins from 2006 to 2010.

Now, fans are pushing for Justin Moreau. The former Twin and current Colorado Rockies first baseman wasn’t picked by National League manager Mike Matheny, his peers, or by fan vote, but he could still make it as one of five players in an NL Final Vote. Fans can cast their vote by tweeting #VoteMorneau or on the All-Star Game voting website.
