Fort Carson, CO- Twenty soldiers got the chance to go home to their families in Colorado right in time for Independence Day weekend.
The troops from the 242nd Ordnance Battalion marched into Fort Carson's Special Events Center on Saturday.
There to greet them were their families. The room was filled with hugs, smiles and tears of joy with their return.
"I’m excited; it's been such a long time since he's been gone. He hasn't been here for a year and now he's back it's finally a reunion,” said Vincent Patellaro, whose father returned.
The soldiers were in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom since July of 2013. The soldiers were responsible for disposing of improvised explosive devices, clearing weapons chases and clearing roads.
