The biggest celebration of Japanese pop culture has arrived in Southern California. Anime Expo is happening Thursday through Sunday at the LA Convention Center. This year the event is expected to attract record breaking audiences, with nearly 200,000 fans expected.
The 4 day extravaganza gives fans a chance to immerse themselves into the world of Japanese animation, comic books, music and fashion. Costumes are a big part of the event, as is "cosplaying"... that's when fans transform themselves into their favorite characters by dressing up with elaborate costumes, wigs and make up.
Japanese pop culture fans are able to connect with others from across the country, and around the world. There's also the opportunity to meet some of the most famous anime artists from Japan. There are artist panels, concerts, karaoke, fashion shows and interactive events, as well as booths with more than 300 vendors.
