Surfing Blind: Learn to Surf LA with The Braille Institute

Posted: Updated:
Manhattan Beach, CA - (FOX 11) Surfers infested the waters to get a jump start on the long holiday weekend but it was a special day at the beach for blind kids who also wanted to catch a wave.

The Braille Institute joined forces with Learn to Surf LA to teach visually impaired kids how to surf.

Bob Amendola runs the surf school and says, "it's all about using touch and getting the kids to feel their way in the water and on the board. The instructors are behind them and call out what to do. It's a great day and a great event. To see their smiles and to see them in the water having fun is so worth it."

This is the fourth year the event is taking place on Manhattan Beach and they will continue to offer this special camp to challenge and encourage blind kids to tackle any wave that comes their way.
