D.C.

National Mall Independence Day Celebration
What’s better than spending July 4th in our nation’s capital?  If you’re planning on celebrating in the District, the National Mall is the center of attention.  Here’s what’s happening:

Parade: 11:45 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Follows the route along Constitution Ave. NW from 7th to 17th Streets.  Click here for more info.

Concerts:
5 - 9:30 p.m. U.S. Navy Band at the Sylvan Theatre (Washington Monument Grounds)

8 – 9:30 p.m. – A Capitol Fourth concert on the U.S. Capitol’s west lawn.  This year’s event will be hosted by Tom Bergeron, and features Frankie Valli, John Williams, Patti Labelle, Phillip Phillips, Jordin Sparks, Michael McDonald, Sarah Evans, The Muppets, The National Symphony Orchestra and more.  Gates open at 3 p.m., and if you want a good seat, you should get there early.   CLICK HERE FOR ALL THE DETAILS!

Fireworks start: 9:10 p.m. (17 minutes long)
Fireworks will launch from the Reflecting Pool area.  You can see them from many spots in D.C. and Virginia—including the U.S. Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, National Mall between 14th Street and 3rd Street, Roosevelt Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, White House Ellipse, West Potomac Park, East Potomac Park, Anacostia Park, U.S. Marine Corps Memorial, Gravelly Point and George Washington Memorial Parkway.

Things to know before you go:
Visitors must go through security at controlled event entrances to access the National Mall for Independence Day.
Note: The Washington Monument will NOT be open on July 4, and the World War II Memorial will close early at approximately 4 p.m.  Click here for more important info you should know before you go.

Smithsonian Folklife Festival
The annual festival celebrates several U.S. and foreign cultures with music, crafts, food and demonstrations.
