AUSTIN, Minn. (KMSP) -

A burglar in Austin, Minn. tried to flee the scene in a kayak, but he couldn’t out-paddle the motorized boat that police borrowed to catch the crook.

According to police, an employee was giving a tour of a restaurant on the Cedar River when they interrupted a burglary in progress. Officers found two people in kayaks on the river and learned one of the men was involved in the burglary.

Police used a fire department boat to catch the kayaker, who allegedly stole cleaning supplies and lighters from the restaurant, which was closed at the time of the burglary.
