Community gardens have their roots deeply planted in the idea of collaboration.
In the 1940s, "Victory Gardens" provided vegetables and moral for the war effort. Today's community gardens were born out of the ecology movement and neighborhood revitalization efforts of the 1970s. Today, over half a million people participate in community gardens all over the United States.
