Paperwork parks world's largest plane at MSP International

MINNEAPOLIS -

The massive airplane sitting at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is getting a lot of attention. It was set to take to the skies on Monday night, but aviation enthusiasts can still spy a peek due to a paperwork delay.

It's rare to see a plane measuring in at 275 feet in length and topping out at 59 feet tall. With a wingspan of 290 feet, the Antonov 225 is considered the world's largest airplane, and it's in the Twin Cities to pick up some gigantic air conditions to deliver to the Middle East. Since Sunday evening, however, it's been grounded because of the weather.

Dave Sniadak is one of many who tried to take advantage of the delay.

"It's not every day you get to see the world's largest aircraft sitting next to your office," he remarked.

Sniadak works for Endeavor Airlines and noticed the plane for the first time on Monday. When he did, he wanted to make sure he wasn't the only one to see it. In fact, he brought his 9-year-old son to come and take photographs.

The plane was built in the late 1980s by the Soviet Union and Ukraine, and it was once used to haul space shuttles and booster rockets. Now, it transports cargo -- including locomotives -- and plays a critical role in delivering huge quantities of emergency supplies during disaster relief operations.
