Gilbert police trying to ID body found in home - KMSP-TV

Body found in Gilbert home could be an elderly woman

Posted: Updated:

GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities say a badly decomposed body found in an apparently abandoned house in Gilbert may be that of a 95-year-old woman who died nearly four years ago.

Gilbert police say the body was discovered in a bedroom Saturday by a locksmith who was changing a lock in the home near Lindsay and Baseline Roads.

Investigators met Tuesday with the homeowner, who told police the body was that of her mother who died in September 2010.

The 60-year-old woman told police she didn't report the death because the conditions of the house were so bad, she was afraid she would be accused of elder abuse or neglect.

Police say they have yet to verify the woman's information and the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office hasn't identified the body yet.

They say the woman could face charges.  Her name has not been released.
