Citizens Bank Park Will Be Testing Metal Detectors At Gates This July

Posted: Updated:
SOUTH PHILADELPHIA -

Metal detectors will be getting tested at Citizens Bank Park this summer before the technology is implemented in every Major League Baseball park next season, according to the Phillies' website.

The Citizens Bank Park metal detectors are a part of a pilot program that will begin on July 21 for fans entering the park by way of the Right Field gate, according to an MLB.com story.

The addition of metal detectors is part of the MLB's cooperation with the Department of Homeland Security that aims to standardize security practices across the league.

Fans will be passing through the metal detectors before reaching the gate to have their tickets scanned.

Much like an airport security check, cell phones, cameras, and other larger metal items will be removed before passing through the detectors. However, unlike airport procedures, shoes and belts will not require removal.

Hand-held detectors will be utilized for fans who are unable to pass through the detectors.

Bag checks will also remain a standard procedure and bags are still not required to be any larger than 16-by-16-by-8 inches.
