NY lawmakers seek to stop people from posing with tigers

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Enough men evidently pose with living tigers in their dating website profile pictures to warrant the existence of the Instagram "tinderguyswithtigers" and a bill banning "tiger selfies" in the state of New York.

State Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal introduced that piece legislation, which now awaits only the governor's approval. If he signs the bill, anyone not certified to handle animals caught in the state of New York touching a lion, tiger, jaguar, etc., would face a $500 fine.

It would remain legal to pose with other non-feline animal predators in the state of New York.

"You cannot legislate against stupid people doing dumb things and this is what this is trying to do," said Dick Dadey, the executive director of the nonpartisan good-government group Citizen's Union. He called the tiger selfie bill a waste of time and money and a classic example of over legislation, to which the assemblywoman responded: "I do a lot of legislation on numerous topics and this is the one that people focused on."

Do New Yorkers need protection from jungle cats? Do they need it more than affordable housing or accessible health care? Lot of questions surrounding tiger selfies but perhaps none more intriguing than do women really fall for this?

Some answers:

"I'm a cat person, so I feel like I'd like guys with cats."

"If I saw my boyfriend in a picture with a tiger, I'd be impressed. Especially with the baby tiger."

"They look like tools."

"It's not a bad idea. Oh, God. This is not going to get you a girl."
