2014 NBA DRAFT: Wolves with No. 13 pick, rumors abound

Posted: Updated:
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

The Timberwolves will enter the 2014 NBA Draft with the No. 13 pick in the first round, but a lot could happen between now and 6:30 p.m. Year after year, picks and trades are more surprising than Aunt Midge’s Jell-O salad. And Aunt Midge never makes the same Jell-O salad twice.

The Wolves need shooters, and they may look to add some depth at the wing or power forward position at No. 13, but head coach and president of basketball operations Flip Saunders also said Tuesday the team could end up with simply an NBA-ready player.

Two Michigan State players could be on their radar, power forward Adreian Payne and shooting guard Gary Harris. UCLA's athletic Zach LaVine has been tossed around but he may not be available when the time comes. Arizona’s Aaron Gordon is another possibility at the 3 or the 4, or the Wolves could look for a shooter in Michigan's Nik Stauskas.

The most hotly contested factor, however, is All-Star power forward Kevin Love’s future with the team now that he’s voiced his desire to leave and intends to become an unrestricted free agent after next season. A trade could still happen with Cleveland with the No. 1 overall pick, Boston (6, 17), Phoenix (14, 18, 27), Chicago (16,19), Golden State -- the rumors will multiply throughout the evening. Recently, talks of Golden State dealing away guard Klay Thompson and forward David Lee abounded, that deal may have cooled off, but it could still happen before or even after the draft.
